AUDITIONS

The University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc University Theatre has scheduled auditions for its fall production of Evil Dead: The Musical. Auditions are open to both students and community members. Auditions will be held Tuesday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the University Theatre. The show will be performed October 31-November 3, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the UW-Manitowoc University Theatre.

Those auditioning need to prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre selection. An accompanist will be provided. Those auditioning should also be dressed to dance and be prepared to read scenes from the show. You only need to attend one of the two audition nights.

There are roles available for four men and four women of various contemporary musical theatre ranges:

  • Ash - Hero, tenor/male belt
  • Cheryl - Ash's dorky sister, first to turn evil, vulgar as a demon - contemporary mezzo belt
  • Scotty - Ash's best friend, preppy "douche" - tenor/male belt
  • Linda - Ash's girlfriend, sweet and caring - "Disney princess" soprano
  • *Shelly - Scotty's "pick-up", dumb as rocks - character voice
  • Jake - Native of the woods, knows everything - character/tenor
  • *Annie - Heroin, searching for her father at the cabin - contemporary mezzo belt
  • Ed - Annie's finance, stereotypical bit part - character baritone

*The roles of Shelly and Annie could be filled by one person. This decision will be based on audition turn-out and casting decisions.

There are not any age limitations for auditions, but those auditioning should look "college-age." Anyone cast in the show under the age of 18 will need written parental consent due to the language and sexual references in the show.

According to the show website, Evil Dead: The Musical is “the only musical in the world with a splatter zone, and is a hilarious live stage show that takes all the elements of the cult classic horror films, Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness and combines them to make one of the craziest theatrical experiences of all time.”  In the show, five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It's all up to Ash and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. The story includes blood, dismembered limbs, and demons telling bad jokes – all set to music.
