The public is invited to the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc on Saturday, February 8 for two special events featuring the efforts of area high school students. These free events will be the culmination of an educational program entitled “24 Hours of Art & Theatre” and will include an opening of new art work at 6:30 p.m. and a theatre production at 7:30 p.m. The evening will demonstrate a collaboration between UW-Manitowoc faculty and selected high school students from around the area.

About 40 high school students were nominated by their teachers representing Lincoln, Valders, Kiel, Manitowoc Lutheran, Reedsville, Denmark and Mishicot high schools. Professors Berel Lutsky (art) and John Wright (theatre) will guide the high school students through creative processes, introducing them to college-level work in the fine arts.

The art students will work with printmaking equipment and processes generally not available to high school students, creating original pieces that will be displayed in the UW-Manitowoc Founders Hall Gallery during the month of February.

The theatre students will write, direct, and act in original productions, through a process known as “guerilla theater.” The productions will be staged in a black-box format.

“24 Hours of Art & Theatre” is being made possible through the generous support of community sponsors: UW-Manitowoc Foundation, Inc., Courthouse Pub, Pizza Ranch, and Utrecht/Blick Art Supply.
