One movement from any published concerto or solo work for wind ensemble brass and woodwind instruments, multiple mallet percussion, and piano, with band accompaniment. The work may be a transcription from traditional orchestral repertoire or an original solo work with wind ensemble accompaniment. Proof of availability of scores/parts MUST be indicated on the application. Rental works which cost in excess of $300 for score/parts will not be accepted. The jury and conductor of the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble reserve the right to disqualify a contestant if the literature performed is not of highest artist/musical quality. Although performance from memory is not required, contestants are encouraged to do so. Disqualification will result if any copyright violation is discovered. Three judges’ copies must be provided at the time of audition. "Piano Concerto in Eb Major" by Franz Liszt will not be accepted because of a recent performance.
Judges for the contest are respected professional woodwind, brass, percussion and piano specialists/artists. Each judge will provide contestants with written comments at the end of preliminary and/or final auditions. Preliminary winners will receive their written comments for both the preliminary and final auditions at the conclusion of the contest. Any judge having a family, teaching, or professional relationship with a contestant must declare that relationship and abstain from voting on that individual performance. The decisions of the judges are final.
It is the responsibility of each contestant to ensure that wind ensemble parts are available for works to be auditioned, and must furnish the name and address of the publisher or other source on the application form. Contestants may forfeit their right to audition and winners may forfeit their awards if their chosen work is not published or is unavailable at the time of the audition for the solo instrument and wind ensemble/band accompaniment. Confirmation of its availability must be made prior to the audition date. It also is the responsibility of each contestant to be on time for all scheduled events. Any contestant who is late will be moved to the end of the schedule. A piano accompaniment is recommended. Contestant must provide his/her own accompanist. Winners MUST perform with the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble on its March 8, 2013 Concert or forfeit the scholarship award. Attendance at two dress rehearsals on March 4 and 7 at 6:00 p.m. prior to the concert is mandatory. Previous first place winners are not eligible to re-enter on the same instrument following the year in which they won.
A non-refundable entry fee of $20.00 must accompany each application. Please make checks payable to: Lakeshore Wind Ensemble Association. Each contestant is responsible for providing his/her own food, lodging and transportation, as well as that of his/her accompanist.
Entry deadline, November 1, 2013. Contestants will be notified of their scheduled audition time by November 5, 2013.
