Youth Options is a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction program that allows high school juniors and seniors to enroll in courses at University of Wisconsin institutions, Wisconsin technical colleges or participating private schools. Tuition, books and fees are covered by the high school district if the course the student is taking is not comparable to a course offered by the district.
To be eligible for the program, students must be in good standing at their high school and they must obtain prior approval. Students must also meet appropriate admission criteria and be accepted by UW-Manitowoc. This program is attractive to students from small high schools which may not be able to offer a wide range of specialty courses, and to students who have already completed all required courses before the end of their senior year.
Youth Options students earn both high school and college credit concurrently by receiving one-quarter high school credit for each college credit. College credits can then be transferred if the student chooses to attend college after graduating high school.
